With the Songwall LIVE! event at The Hospital Club drawing closer, it seemed like a fitting opportunity to investigate the music of ME And Deboe, who will be performing at the event, for this week’s Song Review. The quirky artwork of their logo beckoned me in to discover their songs, and a click of the play button did not disappoint….
SONG: Ten Toes
ARTIST: ME And Deboe
THREE WORD SUMMARY: Lyrical, complex purity
“Ten Toes” takes you by the hand and coaxes you with slow, light, rhythmic waves of plucked strings through teasingly thoughtful lyrics towards galloping depth of sound and a sudden impactful finale.
ME & Deboe match vocal purity with harmonic complexity, with a supreme understanding of how to build musical texture, evolving and intriguing throughout. Beautifully matched voices are merged without ego or competition, effortlessly compatible but impressively distinctive.
“Ten Toes” is the gift that keeps on giving. A second listen uncovers subtle elements which went unnoticed before; a witty play on words, a subtle swoop of harmony, a slight change to the underlying guitar accompaniment adding extra dimension.
If this song speaks to the catalogue of music ME & Deboe will be delivering at Songwall LIVE! then the audience is certainly in for a treat!
