In this fast-paced, ever-changing, rush of a world, the importance of finding the opportunity to stop, rest and absorb something beautiful is never to be underestimated. This week’s song review focuses on Birmingham artist Daniels’ melodious meditation on stillness.
SONG: Statue – Listen here
3 WORD SUMMARY: Restful, harmonic warmth
I came across this track at the end of a hectic, loud and somewhat taxing day and thank goodness I did, because this is a real find: a song to soothe the stressed soul. For me, “Statue” brings to mind a similar soft comfort to that of Athlete’s “Rubik’s Cube” and will certainly be making its way onto my perfect chillout playlist.
With a richness of vocal tone reminiscent of Bastille’s Dan Smith, Daniels’ delicately acoustic and beautifully arranged melody would be perfectly suited to red wine and candlelight – the warmth of the ghostly harmonies echoing the gentle glow of the flame.
Behind the mellow guitar, breathy backing-vocal undertones and barely-there percussion, the image-conjuring lyrics are a joy to uncover.
So, if you have had your fill of “the noise in the air”, switching on this song is a highly recommended way to switch off and recharge.
