Ghandi once said “be the change you want to see in the world”.
It’s easy to talk the talk about instigating change, but the Songwall way is to lead by example.
Songwall was founded on a dream of changing the way that music and artists are valued and founder Brendan Poynton sewed the seeds of this change when he opened the first “Songs in the Sky” event last month with two of his own compositions.
Taking things to the next level, Brendan will be performing a full set of his original music this Wednesday (24th August) for the launch of the first “Songwall Sessions” event at Cogs Bar in Birmingham. This monthly event will provide paid performance opportunities for up-and-coming artists, giving them the opportunity to share their music in a supportive and valuing context.
Whet your musical appetite for Wednesday’s event by watching this newly-released footage of Brendan’s live performance of Eyes of Change at last month’s “Songs in the Sky”.
Want to know more about the man behind the music? You can read our interview with the Songwall founder, as he prepares for his performance at Songwall Sessions.
Brendan will be performing alongside innovative new artist Ella Joy, who has been part of the Songwall community for over a year now. Ella Joy, whose influences include Sevdeliza, FKA Twigs and Ella James, will be bringing her unique electronic sound to Songwall Sessions, having previously performed with Brendan and fellow Songwaller Ayanna Witter-Johnson this time last year at the most recent Music Earth Rise event after winning the first Songwall competition to win a paid support slot.
Check out the video for Ella’s meltingly beautiful tune “Burn” and see a little hint of what lies in store on Wednesday evening!
You can also read our exclusive pre-performance interview with Ella Joy to learn more about her inspirations, her journey through music and her thoughts about performing at Songwall Sessions.
